A l’heure où des populations civiles sont obligées de fuir pour échapper aux dérèglements de la planète, d’autres plus privilégiées discourent sans relâche sur la menace migratoire. Même si nous comprenons l’enchainement qui lie notre modèle de société à la destruction du monde, nous persistons à vouloir profiter seuls de biens que nous devons à notre naissance.

 

 Et à les protéger pour ne pas avoir à les partager. Il convient donc de s’organiser pour éloigner l’étranger, cet ennemi naturel prêt à nous envahir, voire nous remplacer. Lui interdire tout sentiment d’appartenance à la nation, son passé, sa gloire, sa culture mais aussi ses ressources.

 

La photographie nous plonge ici dans un monde inquiet qui se barricade pour atteindre cet unique objectif. Une société sous influence qui s’emmure dans une attente morbide au prix d’avoir à renoncer à sa philosophie et à sa propre conception du bonheur. Une société rétrécie et polluée par l’individualisme, la consommation et l’obsession de la sécurité. Une société orpheline de ses propres Lumières qui en faisait pourtant sa fierté.

 

 Ces images font suite à la série Welcome réalisée en 2015. Coïncidences visuelles troublantes avec le confinement que nous venons de vivre, elles préfigurent une société potentiellement victime d’un mal encore plus insidieux.

At a time when some civil populations are forced to flee to escape the planet's disruptions, other, more privileged people talk relentlessly about the threat of migration. Even if we understand the chain of events that links our model of society to the destruction of the world, we persist in wanting to enjoy alone the goods we owe at birth.

 And to protect them so that we don't have to share them. We must therefore organize ourselves to keep the stranger away, this natural enemy ready to invade or even replace us. We must forbid him to have any sense of belonging to the nation, its past, its glory, its culture but also its resources.

Photography here plunges us into a restless world that barricades itself in order to reach this unique objective. A society under influence that is walled up in a morbid expectation at the price of having to renounce its philosophy and its own conception of happiness. A society shrunk and polluted by individualism, consumerism and obsession with security. A society orphaned by its own Enlightenment which made it its pride.

 These images are a follow-up to the Welcome series produced in 2015. Disturbing visual coincidences with the confinement we have just experienced, they prefigure a society potentially victim of an even more insidious evil.
